How to make Mobius strip hearts

Step 1: Cut two strips of colored paper. We used pink colored paper and glitter foam sheets to make this work suitable for Valentine’s Day.

Step 2: Use tape to secure the two strips in the center so that they form a right angle.

Step 3: Take the ends of one strip, twist it to the right and glue it to the other end to form a Möbius strip.

Step 4: Twist the other strip to the left and tape its ends. It is important to twist the strips in opposite directions so that this blank comes out.

Step 5: When the strips are ready, cut them down the middle lengthwise, one by one. That’s it! Your Möbius strip hearts are ready.

You may need to touch up the hearts a bit and tape them at the ends to match the shape perfectly.

Isn’t this a fun Valentine’s STEM exercise? It’s almost magical to watch simple Möbius strips transform into interlocking hearts.

What are Möbius strips?

A Möbius strip is a one-sided non-oriented surface that has no top or bottom and has only one edge. The interesting thing is that it is made of a paper strip that has two sides!

Все ще не зрозуміло? Ми це розуміємо! Swipe your finger across the Möbius strip or draw a line on it with a pen. You’ll be surprised that you can touch or draw on the entire surface without taking your hands off! This is what mathematicians mean when they talk about non-oriented surfaces!
